Fishing is heating up on the Colorado River below Davis Dam!
Our local angler Kerim Gulerysuz was out in his small boat near Community Park and landed an absolute beast — a 25.16-pound striped bass measuring just over 38 inches! That’s a thick fish with a serious belly. Typically, a striper pushing that kind of weight is closer to 4 feet long, so this one was built like a tank. Kerim hooked into the fish using a swimbait, proving once again that big presentations can produce big results.
This catch came just a few days after the latest trout stocking. It’s never too late to help protect those stocked trout, and after a few days the stripers really start hunting them down. They’ll settle into deeper holes and ambush points where food naturally funnels to them, so anglers are having to work a little harder to locate those holding areas.
For bait anglers, PowerBait and nightcrawlers are producing steady action. If you prefer throwing hardware, spinners and trout jigs can put together a quick limit when you find active fish.
Up on Lake Mohave, fishing continues to do well for stripers and smallmouth bass. Largemouth bass are moving back into the coves, though we’re not quite into the spawn yet. For both largemouth and smallmouth bass, various soft plastics are your best bet. For stripers, trolling has been most productive, with swimbaits and white-pattern bucktail jigs working especially well.
We hope this helps, and we look forward to seeing you soon to share your catch and your story. Thanks for the continued support!
